Good news for the Amazon rainforest and elephants!

We are very proud to present our new range of jewellery made from Tagua, the fruit of the Tagua palm that grows naturally in the jungle regions of Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia.

This palm tree’s scientific name (Phytelephas) means “elephant plant” because its fruit hardens to resemble ivory. It can be carved and dyed and used to make jewellery, ornaments, buttons and even bagpipes!

In the past, the US imported Tagua to make buttons, but demand dropped as plastic began to replace it. Current, renewed interest in Tagua could be very significant for local economies and also for the protection of the rainforests, which are being destroyed at an alarming rate. It will hopefully be good news for elephants, too!

We are really looking forward to working more extensively with this amazing material.
