Our Commitment to Fair Trade

We hope that it goes without saying that we are passionately committed to fair trade. Achkiy’s principal raison d’etre is to provide fairly paid work to the most marginalised members of Peruvian society, thus giving them dignity and hope for the future of their families.

The World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) describes Fair Trade as “a trading partnership based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade.”  (WFTO full definition of Fair Trade) 

They prescribe 10 Standards that Fair Trade Organisations must follow in their day-to-day work, which are summarised below:

Standard One:         Creating Opportunities for Economically Disadvantaged Producers 

Standard Two:        Transparency and Accountability 

Standard Three:     (Responsible and Beneficial) Trading Practices 

Standard Four:        Payment of a Fair Price 

Standard Five:         No Child Labour or Forced Labour 

Standard Six:          Non Discrimination, Gender Equity and Freedom of Association 

Standard Seven:    (Safe and Healthy) Working Conditions 

Standard Eight:      Capacity Building 

Standard Nine:       Promotion of Fair Trade 

Standard Ten:        Environment
